Production Concept: In this production, the two pieces were connected, Schicchi taking place about 20 years after Suor Angelica and in the very same large room. Buoso Donati, a Cardinal, owns the convent in which his relative, Angelica, has been sent as punishment. In fact, the convent serves as a sort of reformatory for “wayward girls”. The Principessa lies to Angelica about the death of her son, who grows up to become Rinuccio and the Principessa appears in Schicchi as Zita. Lauretta is pregnant by Rinuccio, just as his mother was pregnant with him, but in the second opera, loves triumphs.
